Feed A

M.T Anderson. Who is M.T Anderson? and why is his book so inspiring to others? Why did he become an teacher and an editor? Quite frankly, at class, we didnt talk that much about him, but i went home and did a little bit of research. Mr. Anderson was born on November 4th, 1968, in Stow, Massachuetts. Anderson attened to Harvard, University of Cambridge and Syracuse. He was a former instructor at Vermont College in Montpelier, Vermont, and former music critic for "The Improper Bostonian." There are two reasons why M.T Anderson write for young children. Either they have children, or they are children. M.T Anderson grew up in a small town surrounded by apple orchards and woods. He spent most of hs time, playing in the forest. He didnt live near many kids, so he just socially and lived in an fantasy world. Sometimes, he gets too distracted by his dream which causes him to become an editor in literature. He started to write plays about his childhood. M.T Anderson also gave us a strategy or something we should know, if you want to be an writer, all you have to do is "read everything" - romance novels, ninteeth century novels, Greek epics, Chinese poetry...etc. M.T Anderson wrote an book, "Feed." Feed was a 2002 Los Angeles Times Book Prize Winner.

I was inspire by M.T Anderson's book "Feed," there were many connections to our lives. This book seems to draw my attention everytime the book made a good point of how technologies affects us young teenagers. Feed also explain how the main characters brain function like an computer, which connects to our lives. We dont have computer inside our brains but there is techonlogy everywhere around us. This book explains how "feed" is on 24/7 and it never stop, which shows me that their world is control by evil technologies. But when someone hacked into their priority/ services, they completed space out. It is like someone just unplugged something that was access to this certain monitor, then the world complete shut down. Luckily they got their "power" back wich gave them life again. All of this connect to our world. If we didnt have technologies... this world will be extinct by now. No digital devices equals to deaf.

Who actually doesnt give a shit if we didnt have technologies? It seem like everyone cares if we didnt have any systems. I could imagine the world without digital representations, everyone will just be bitching. I think the reason why technologies has affect our brain is that, we follow others footstep. For example: I gew up without technologies and when i see my friends playing his gameboy advance, it makes my heart broken. It makes me think that I dont belong in this world. Now my father and younger brother stays on the computer most of the time. This also make our generations more stupid and lazy. It seem like everyone is challenging each other to see whether who spent the most time on the computer or watching television. In the book Feed, Violet is the only one that can deal with her life without feed. She is the only one that didnt get affected by the feed which makes her worry. She is saying that this nations is full of dumbass and no one is realizing what she meant by that any why she felt that way. That also relates to me... it seem like i am living under the roof with idiots. "When can we learn?" "When can these technologies stop getting into our head?" "Why does our brain follows other people footstep?" I just know one thing... dont let technologies take over or control you... let your mind control the game.

  1. To Quinn,
Just to start off, i really like your overall idea that technology is infact bad and doing more bad then good to us. Like how facebook is destroying our friendships and our addiction to technology is growing stronger by the day. The reason i choose to write the comment on this is because i really feel like this is your best work, you really start off strong by going in depth with you research on M.T.Anderson. Then you didn't stop, you really went in deep with your connections to facebook and how the technology we already we have is just like feed, we are only steps from having it already in our heads. That is what i really liked. It really brings our life and this book together. It shows us how we really aren't that far behind these people. Like how we have a "Feed" on facebook and how it keeps us updated on our friends recent activity, i just think things like that are really what are keeping us down. Some suggestions i have is to work on you grammar (small stuff), and to show the other side of the arguement. Show what good stuff is happening and how that can positively help us. You have some very contriditory ideas, such as how you said it was hard to live without talking to your girlfriend and similar stuff, but in your blog you talk about how stupid it all is. Maybe technology is stupid but what it is doing is genious. Other then that i really found you comment and especially this blog post to be very helpful in terms of seeing your point of view, which is something that i can use later on in this class as a start off point, so a million thanks.
    From,
    Sam

  2. Quinn, Very interesting and good work. For 13 B i agree with a lot of what you are saying. I also believe that M.T. Anderson has a way of getting into our heads and making us be more aware of the world around us. I also agree with what you said about recomending the book to younger generations of people to try and make them more aware of the negative affects of digital on the body and the mind. I also really liked your point about how sooner or later we all will be dead so it is good to stop and look around the world a bit and not trap ouselves in a little box.
For Feed A I also have been wondering who M.T. Anderson is and what inspired him to write Feed. It seems like he has a very interesting and cultured background, and its somewhat surprising that he went to Harvard because he didn't write with that stuck up ivy league I'm better then you mentality which is seen in a lot of non fiction writing from professors. So thanks for doing that reaserch real interesting stuff. Furthermore your right that almost everybody would flip a shit if technology went down on us out of the blue one day. If I had to take a geuss then I would probably geuss like 5-8% of the population wouldn't go crazy. If you need any evidence for that point just go back and remember y2k, and that was before ipods wireless internet and widespred use of dvds. So your totally right on that point. Also your right that we follow in other peoples footstep's if we went to a school where all the girls were in dresses and the guys looked like they got there from 1957 I don't think that a new kid would do anything much different even if he didn't like it. Same applies for digital so again real good observation.
I must admit that after reading your post on the self experiment Ive concluded that you have more courage then me! If I lost the internet on my phone I probably would never recover. Your right however that people don't need as much connection as they have. Meening that if you can call, text, and I.M. someone from home then your probably plenty connected. I think that most people could live without internet on the phone but your right that most people couldnt live without a home computer of some kind.
In conclusion I really liked your posts and I think that you wrote some really great stuff and put out some real inteligent ideas. The only criticsms I can think of is I would have liked to see you do more on your self experiment like maybe some more analysis about how your experiment would aply to other people. Also maybe after you talked about recomending the book to your little brother talk about how digital might affect his generation. Anyway great work hope to read some more in the future.
